Really happy and proud that The Internet mockumentary is finally done and online. People seem to enjoy it so far which makes all this work worth it.

There was quite a bit of material that we didn’t use and a tight schedule didn’t help polishing certain things as much as we wanted.

With some material that was left out, ideas we didn’t fully developed and seeing that the public reaction has been quite openly positive, I’m currently writing episode 2.

Morning Tea

Some of us, citizens of that glorious republic known as ToDo films, have worked on Milan Sebo’s first feature – Morning Tea.

It’s a movie about euthanasia. A group of young people suffering from terminal diseases face the always hard question, how much control would you have over your own death?

Not a contender for comedy of the year.

Rut Briones edited the movie, I wrote some music with Tom Baynton and Ana Maria Salazar made sense of the noise we recorded.

And now, a little anecdote/remark/comment regarding the music recording, as it is what I was involved on and therefore the only bit I feel comfortable talking about without being accused of plain idolatry towards my friends and colleagues.

Due to always tight deadlines, the recording of the soundtrack took the magic of sound engineering to new levels.

We only had a few days to write the music, and one morning to record it. Tom was in the US so it made it a bit hard to rehearse and arrange the music properly. We were recording on a Friday morning, Tom landing on a Wednesday added a bit of jet-lag to the mix.

My apartment went through an episode of grand designs, we had to fit a cello between a piano and some blankets blocking the traffic noise coming from the windows. Thankfully, Miss Salazar used her magic and made it all sound like we were inside Abbey Road studios.

London Shortfilm Festival

Phobia has been selected to run for Best Low-Budget Shortfilm at the London Shortfilm Festival.

A bit of info about the festival from their website:

The London Short Film Festival, the city’s most expansive and radically explosive film festival, returns to the city for its 7th edition. The festival will take place over ten days throughout the capital at ten major London venues in January 2010.

With over 200 short films, LSFF’s programme is exclusively with the work of Britain’s most exciting up-and-coming filmmakers.
We will be screening Phobia on Friday the 8th of January at 11 pm.

Portobello Film Festival

Phobia was screened at the Portobello Film Festival last Thursday the 10th under the London Filmmakers day.

It was a fun day with lots and lots of works shown of all styles.

Apart from a few technical sound problems the projection of ‘Phobia’ was received with applause and some cheering during the vomiting sequence.

We’re really proud.

Our first screening – we did it

So we keep going on and on about Phobia and Kino… blah blah… but yesterday was really great. We really enjoyed it. It took me quite a while to figure out where the Horse Hospital was, but that’s not because it’s particulary difficult or hidden (it’s for me, not for other people) but because I’m not good with maps and I kept looking at google maps on my phone trying to figure out where this magical tiny street was supossed to be. Found it opposite to the “friend at hand” pub… pub which I still wonder why it has that name. I assumed it had something to do with the little picture of a Saint Bernard (as in the dog breed)… but anyway, let’s get to the pint point!

We got there and people started coming in, loads of people… the place wasn’t particulary large so you can say it was pretty crowded (over 100 people i’d say), which was really cool and felt exciting.

The host (i don’t remember his name, sorry) was great and he started taking out DVDs out of a bag. Phobia was the 3rd film to be shown and from my point of view, I think it had quite a good reception!

Generally, I have to say, most of the films were very good. I didn’t expect such a high quality being this an open-mic screening (i.e. no filter). Positive surprised and maybe thinking whether we should apply filters to film…

Kino 7

Yesterday we had a great time at the Kino 7 open-mic screenings.

A total of eleven films, an incredible performance by Dan Smith and lots of mingling around.

Definitely coming back!

As part of their open-micfilm nights ‘Phobia’ will be presented together with other filmmakers’ works, sushi and some drinks
